Abdominoplasty - Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck, also known as Abdominoplasty removes excess fat and skin from the abdomen. The procedure also flattens the abdomen by repairing separated muscles.

Tummy Tuck

Women, with stretched abdominal areas due to previous pregnancies or major weight changes, can benefit from Abdominoplasty. Excess skin and fat across the abdomen is often resistant to diet and exercise, and stretched or separated abdominal muscles generate visibly poor muscle tone in this area. Mr Ferrando will discuss all aspects of the Tummy Tuck procedure suitable to you at your consultations.

The Tummy Tuck procedure not only helps to restore the physical appearance of the patient, but also restores self-confidence and self-esteem.

The length of the incision is determined by the amount of loose skin that has to be removed. The incision lengths vary from as short as 6 inches (Mini Tummy Tuck) to the most common incision length which runs from hip to hip.

Many men like to combine the Tummy Tuck procedure with Liposuction to create a slimmer waistline.

Tummy TuckSurgery is usually performed under general aneasthetic and usually takes 2 to 3 hours to complete. You will have to stay in the clinic over night.

Consultation

Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.

This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.

Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!

Procedure

The Tummy Tuck procedure is performed with a horizontal incision in the lower abdomen within the bikini line, so it can be easily camouflaged in most bikinis, thongs, and in low-rise jeans. Your navel will be cut from the surrounding skin, excess fat is removed and the abdominal muscles and connective tissues are tightened and repaired.

Mr Ferrando will pull stretched or torn muscles together and stitch them in place and finally your belly button will be repositioned.

Incisions are closed with clips, sutures or special tape and the site is wrapped in bandages or dressings. A thin draining tube is usually placed beneath the skin, to remove excess fluid. You may also have a compression garment to support the healing process.

Anaesthesia and length of the procedure

Abdominoplasty Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic. The operation normally takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the extent of the procedure. You will need to stay in the clinic overnight.

Recovery

After the surgery, you may feel quite tender and sore. Mr Ferrando will provide you with pain relief medication to ease your discomfort. The drainage tubes will be removed before you leave the clinic but you may need to keep the dressing and compressive garment on for a few weeks.

It is very important to keep your knees bent when you are in bed to stop putting strain on your stitches as it will aid the recovery process. Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time, whereas others will need to be removed 1 to 2 weeks after surgery.

Metal clips will be removed two weeks after surgery. You should feel much better 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least 2-4 weeks off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after surgery.

Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any questions, or you should feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.

Risks and Side Effects

All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s anatomy, age, physical condition and lifestyle.

During his procedures and treatments, he does everything possible to minimise the risk of complications by practicing a meticulously detailed approach and applying his world-class training background.
