Breast Enlargement | Augmentation

Breast Enlargement, also called Augmentation or Breast Enhancement all describe the Cosmetic Surgery procedure, women undergo to satisfy their wish for fuller, and more beautiful breasts.

Augmentation

Whether they have always dreamed of increasing the size of their breasts, or if pregnancy or weight loss has resulted in the loss of breast volume and shape. Breast Enlargement, performed with implants filled with silicone.

Mr Ferrando uses the most advanced implant techniques and prefers a more natural look and beautiful shape.

If the patient is a suitable candidate, he may suggest using a small implant surrounded by patient’s own fat, or a Fat Transfer which gives more fullness, without the introduction of a foreign body.

Silicon Implants

Silicone Breast Implants usually last for ten years and may last longer without any problems. Silicone is very durable.

In the rare event that the implant was to tear or rupture, it would keep its shape and would not leak out into the surrounding tissue.

Mr Ferrando only uses the latest technologically advanced implant techniques, including the Anatomical Teardrop Implants for a more natural, beautiful shape.

Having an irregular surface they are considered safer as this prevents the formation of fibrous capsules around them. While the procedure of Anatomical Teardrop Implants is a recent one to the UK, Mr Ferrando has been performing the Anatomical Teardrop Implant’s procedure, successfully, for many years.

Currently there is no evidence to suggest that silicon can contaminate breast milk so you should still be able to breast feed in the future. It is important that you inform Mr Ferrando during consultation, if you plan to breast feed, as this could influence the type of surgery most suitable to you.

Breast Implants can interfere with mammographies. Please let your radiographer know about your implants.

Consultation

Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.

This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.

Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!

Procedure

Breast Enlargement incisions are made underneath the areola, a small and gently curved incision right at the junction of the light and dark skin of the areola area. A pocket for the implant will then created behind the pectoral chest muscle. Mr Ferrando chooses this method in most cases as it results in a more natural shape and appearance, and is less likely to form scar tissue.

Once the implant is inserted into position the incision is carefully closed and a dressing will be applied to protect and support your breasts.

Mr Ferrando will also explain the risks of smoking, the contraceptive pill and other medications to you as they can interfere with the general anaesthetic procedure as well as the healing process.

Anaesthesia and length of the procedure

The operation is performed under general anaesthetic and normally takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the extent of the procedure. You will need to stay in the clinic overnight.

Recovery

You may feel tired and tender for the first couple of days after surgery with swelling and bruising in the breast area. This is only temporary. Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort.

Drainage tubes may be attached to your breasts and will be removed before you leave the clinic. You will need to keep the dressing on for a couple of days. All stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time.

You will be required to wear the recommended sports bra, day and night, for up to 12 weeks, to ensure the necessary support your breasts will need at this stage.

Patients are recommended to have at least one week off work to allow time to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any exercise or heavy lifting should be avoided for at least three weeks after surgery.

You will need to attend follow up appointments after your surgery but if you have any questions or you feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is very important to him.

Risks and Side Effects

All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s anatomy, age, physical condition and lifestyle.

During his procedures and treatments, he does everything possible to minimise the risk of complications by practicing a meticulously detailed approach and applying his world-class training background.
