Breast Reduction
Breast Reduction, is a Cosmetic Surgery procedure to reduce the size of your breasts. The size of women’s breasts are determined by factors such as genetics, body weight and hormonal influences.
It’s often done to relieve back and shoulder pain as well.
Reduction
Many women with overly large breasts not only experience great physical discomfort caused by neck, shoulder and back pain but also a lack of confidence due to unwanted attention, the inability to participate in sporting activities and restrictions in the choice of fitted, fashionable clothes.
Breast Reduction Surgery helps restore a woman’s figure and her self-confidence by removing excess skin, tissue, and fat and repositioning the nipples in a more youthful-looking location.
Breast Reduction Surgery can give you smaller, firmer breasts proportional to your body and restore your self-confidence to lead a more carefree life.

Consultation
Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.
This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.
Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!
Procedure
Breast Reduction Surgery usually requires two incisions, these will enable Mr Ferrando to remove the excess skin and tissue of the breast to achieve smaller and firmer breasts.
The first incision is made around the areola, another incision runs from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease under the breast, and the third incision is positioned horizontally along the crease underneath the breast. The areola will be moved to a higher position to be in balance with the new smaller and firmer breasts.
The Procedure may vary slightly, depending on the extent of the reduction required. At the consultation Mr Ferrando will explain the type of surgery most suited to you.
Anaesthesia and length of the procedure
The operation is performed under general aneasthetic and normally takes around 3 to 4 hours to complete depending on the extent of the procedure. You will need to stay in the clinic for over night.
Recovery
You may feel tired and tender for the first couple of days after surgery with swelling and bruising in the breast area. Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort.
Drainage tubes may be attached to your breasts and will be removed before you leave the clinic. Your breasts will be bandaged for support followed by a surgical bra. Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time where as others will need to be removed 10 to 14 days after surgery.
You will be required to wear the recommended surgical bra, day and night, for the first 6 – 12 weeks to ensure the necessary support your breasts will need at this stage.
Patients are recommended to have at least two weeks off work (depending on the type of occupation) to allow time to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or heavy lifting should be avoided for at least six weeks.
You will need to attend follow up appointments after your surgery but if you have any questions or you feel unsure about anything in-between, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.
