Chin Surgery - Mentoplasty for Men
Chin Enhancement | Reshaping | Reduction Surgery, also called Mentoplasty reshapes the so called “prominent” chin, improving the contour of the chin and therefore the overall harmony of the facial features resulting in a more elegant jaw line.
Symmetry in face
The chin plays an important part in the symmetry of a Men’s face. Chin Reduction Surgery, also called Mentoplasty reshapes the so prominent chins, improving the contour of the chin and therefore the overall structure of the facial features resulting in a balanced masculine jaw line.
Sometimes where the jaw is very prominent, as with an excessive underbite which braces have not been able to correct, then a more radical surgery (Mandibular Osteotomy) is also performed to reduce the lower jaw’s overall length and allow the teeth of the lower jaw to be positioned naturally behind the upper teeth when the mouth is in a closed position.
Mr Ferrando will discuss all aspects of the the Chin Reduction procedure suitable to you at your consultations.
The chin plays an important part in the symmetry of a men’s face.

Mr Ferrando performs this procedure using either the patient’s own fat or a small implant placed through the mouth with no external scars.
Chin Enhancement | Reshaping or Reduction Surgery may be combined with other procedures that improve your facial profile such as Nose Correction, Mini Facelift, Facelift and Cheek Enhancement.
Silicone Implants are usually used for Chin Enhancement Surgery which are available in a variety of different sizes and shapes and can be further modified, to meet the individual needs of the patient.
Consultation
Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.
This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.
Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!
Procedure
Chin Implants are typically placed through an incision made inside the lower lip or through a natural skin crease located beneath the chin.
Mr Ferrando will use the implant, discussed with you at your consultation, that would best enhance your appearance and insert it into a pocket created over the front of the jawbone. The incisions will be closed and bandages applied if the cut was placed under the chin.
Fat Transfer procedures start with an extraction of fat from other areas your body such as abdomen, thighs, buttocks. The fat will be cleansed to then be carefully injected into your chin.
Anaesthesia and length of the procedure
Chin Enhancement Reshaping | Reduction Surgery is usually performed with local anaesthetic and it will be used to numb these areas to eliminate any discomfort during the procedure.
Chin Reduction surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthetic, with oral or I.V. sedation, and usually takes 2 to 3 hours to complete.
Recovery
After Chin Enhancement Reshaping | Reduction Surgery, the bandage must be kept on for the first two days. Drainage tubes may be attached to your face but will be removed 1-2 days after surgery. There isn’t usually any significant discomfort after surgery; Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort, just in case you should experience any pain.
You should feel fine after 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least one week off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 2 weeks after surgery.
It is very important to keep your head in an elevated position as it will aid the recovery process. Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time, whereas others will need to be removed 5 to 7 days after surgery. You can expect a some swelling and you chin might feel partially numb for a few weeks.
Chin Fat Transfer procedures may cause swelling, numbness, and bruising for the first seven days. You will also be required to take your body temperature regularly because a slight increase in temperature could mean infection. Patients can get back to work after a three to five days after the surgery. Make up can be applied 24 hours after surgery.
