Ear Correction or Otoplasty
Ear Correction Surgery, also called Otoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure to set back prominent ears for a more natural looking appearance. Ear reshaping may be desired by people of all ages, and can also be suitable for children from around the age of ten.
Many men with prominent ears feel self-conscious about their appearance. Woman have the advantage of being able to cover their protruding ears with long hairstyles which most men haven’t.
Otoplasty
Ear Correction Surgery is a simple operation. An incision is made behind the ear to adjusts the shape of the cartilage, for the ear to lie closer to the head. Any excess will be removed and then sutured into a normal position.
There are slight varieties of surgical techniques used for the Ear Correction Surgery. Mr Ferrando will explain and discuss all options most suitable to you at the consultation.

Consultation
Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.
This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.
Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!
Procedure
Small incisions are made behind the ears. The Ear Correction techniques will enable the folding, suturing, and rotation of the ear cartilage to achieve a more natural, proportional shape and position, so that the ears lie closer against the scull. Sometimes, reduction in the size of the ears involve the removal of some ear cartilage.
A bandage around your ears will be applied to ensure that your ears heal in the correct position.
Anaesthesia and length of the procedure
The procedure is usually carried out under local anesthetic and can be combined with oral or I.V. sedation, and takes one hour to complete.
Recovery
You will have to wear a bandage across your ears at all times for at least a week, followed by wearing a band around your ears during the night for up to six weeks. Stitches are removed after five to seven days. The scarring is very minimal, and hidden behind your ears.
Your ears may feel tender for the first few days after surgery with slight swelling and bruising in the ear area. This is only temporary. Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort.
You should avoid any activity that might bend your ears, such as wearing glasses, for one month. Adults can return to work after about a week.
A follow up appointment will be made for you after surgery but if you have any questions or you feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is very important to him.
Risks and Side Effects
All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s anatomy, age, condition and lifestyle.
During his procedures and treatments, he does everything possible to minimise the risk of complications by practicing a meticulously detailed approach and applying his world-class training background.
