Face Lift - Rhytidectomy
Facelift Surgery, also known as Rhytidectomy, involves the removing of excess tissue, tightening muscle on the face, neck and cheeks. As we age, certain parts of our face tend to droop, sag, and develop wrinkles. This is most pronounced in the neck and jowls. Facelift can address these signs of aging successfully.
Mr Ferrando’s less invasive Facelift technique involves only very small incisions behind the hairline through which the skin and muscle will be tightened on a deep tissue level. The recovery time will be shorter than with the old traditional facelift technique resulting in a rejuvenated, fresher look which will last longer.
It’s the muscle tightening technique which is the secret of a natural looking facelift which demands a extensive knowledge of the facial anatomy combined with a very detailed method.
The exact procedure is modified for each patient individually to provide the best results. It is often combined with other facial procedures, such as Eyelid Lift , Neck Lift, Liposuction, Fat Transfer or Nose Correction, depending on the needs of the patient.
Talking facelifts with Mr Ferrando
Mr Ferrando days his facelift technique procedure is a technique that has to follow these simple rules:
- The scars need to be invisible which means they have to be inside and behind the ear.
- The tension must be brought on the muscle and not on the skin i.e., skin mustn’t be pulled.
This way you can achieve maximum results without it looking unnatural.
Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.
This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.
Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.
Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!
Your face will be numbed through local anaesthetic with oral or I.V. sedation, but you may choose to have the procedure done under general anaesthetic if you wish.
Mr Ferrando’s Facelift procedure involves only four small incision behind your hairline, two on each side. His special technique leaves the hair roots undamaged so you don’t have to worry about any bald patches after surgery.
Sometimes a small incision may also be made under your chin or inside the mouth, if you would like to lift your jaw line. The excess skin and fat will be removed or repositioned followed by tightening the muscles and surrounding tissues in your face.
Wounds will be carefully sutured to assure very little scaring. A special head bandage will be attached to your head and face, to help keeping bruising and swelling to a minimum.
Anaesthesia and length of the procedure
Facelift Surgery can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic, but it’s usually done under general anaesthetic. It takes 2-3 hours to complete depending on the exact procedure required.
After the surgery, the bandage must be kept on for the first 5 days. Drainage tubes may be attached to your face but will be removed 1-2 days after surgery. There isn’t usually significant discomfort after surgery; Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort, just in case you should experience any discomfort.
It is very important to keep your head in an elevated position as it will aid the recovery process. Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time, whereas others will need to be removed 5 to 7 days after surgery. Metal clips will be removed two weeks after surgery. You can expect swelling and bruising and your facial movements might feel slightly stiff.
You should feel much better 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least two weeks off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after surgery.
Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any questions, or you should feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.
