Implant Revision

Breast Implants sadly do not last forever and no matter how durable, will eventually need to be replaced, this could be with a new implant offering the same shape and size as the previous implant or it may be a completely new size and shape which you feel to be now more aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with how you now wish to be perceived.

I have never used P.I.P. implants. I pride myself to use only the best quality for all my patients and I will always do so. Taking care of my patients is my main priority - Mr Giovanni Ferrando

Implant Revision

Sometimes Implants may need to be replaced sooner than necessary due to complications such as an implant collapse/leakage, or perhaps there is a noticeable rippling of the implant which needs to be addressed, or hardening of the breast (capsular contracture) around the implant where excess scar tissue has formed inside the implant pocket, painfully constricting the implant.

Implant Revision Surgery is usually performed silicone implants. Mr Ferrando uses the most advanced implant techniques and prefers the Anatomical Teardrop Implants for a more natural and beautiful shape.

Consultation

Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.

This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.

Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.

Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!

Procedure

Depending on the exact reason for the revision implant surgery the procedure is fairly similar to that for a normal breast implant except that due to the presence of old scar tissue from the previous procedure the new incision will need to be made in such a way as to produce as little extra scarring as possible.

With particular attention to the careful extraction of the old implant Mr Ferrando will then proceed to remove any excess scar tissue (capsular contracture) within the now empty breast implant pocket that may have been a cause of any surgical complication with the old implant or which could have an affect on the final placement and pleasing aesthetic look of the new better positioned implant.

Once the implant is inserted into position the incision is carefully closed and a dressing will be applied to protect and support your breasts.

Anaesthesia and length of the procedure

The operation is performed under general anaesthetic and normally takes around 2 to 3 hours to complete depending on the extent of the procedure. You will need to stay in the clinic overnight.

Recovery

You may feel tired and tender for the first couple of days after surgery with swelling and bruising in the breast area. This is only temporary. Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort.

Drainage tubes may be attached to your breasts and will be removed before you leave the clinic. You will need to keep the dressing on for a couple of days. All stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time.

You will be required to wear the recommended sports bra, day and night, for up to 12 weeks, to ensure the necessary support your breasts will need at this stage.

Patients are recommended to have at least one week off work to allow time to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any exercise or heavy lifting should be avoided for at least three weeks after surgery.

Risks and Side Effects

All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s anatomy, age, condition and lifestyle.

During his procedures and treatments, he does everything possible to minimise the risk of complications by practicing a meticulously detailed approach and applying his world-class training background.
