Facelift for Man - Rhytidectomy
When a man gets older, it is natural for gravity, time, and lifestyle choices to take effect on the texture and contouring of his face that once gave him a youthful and masculine appearance. A male facelift helps men restore the firmness, smoothness, and definition lost to aging.
What is Rhytidectomy?
Rhytidectomy, commonly known as a male facelift, is a surgical procedure used to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and loss of definition to a man’s face and neck.
Facelift Surgery involves removing excess tissue, tightening muscle on the face, neck and cheeks. As we age, certain parts of our face tend to droop, sag, and develop wrinkles. This is most pronounced in the neck and jowls. Facelift can address these signs of ageing successfully.
Depending on the client’s individual goals, the procedure can be performed to focus on two areas of the face: the lower face and neck or the cheeks and upper face and forehead.
Your consultation for plastic surgery with Mr Ferrando is an important step in the process of considering and undergoing cosmetic or reconstructive procedures.
This initial meeting allows the patient and surgeon to discuss goals, expectations, and potential outcomes, as well as evaluate the patient’s eligibility for the desired procedure. It will be an opportunity to ask questions or clarify any concerns that you may have. You will look at the “before and after” images of previous patients and get further information you need to make a decision.
Mr Ferrando will review your medical history and conduct a physical exam. He will then discuss all options suitable for you and explain each stage of the procedure or treatment. The exact procedure depends on the anatomy of the patient.
Our team believes that a well-informed, comfortable patient is one of the most important elements of the process. Whether you move forward with surgery or simply learn more, Dr Ferrando is looking forward to meeting you!
Mr Ferrando’s Facelift procedure involves only four small incision behind your hairline, two on each side. His special technique leaves the hair roots undamaged so you don’t have to worry about any bald patches after surgery. Sometimes a small incision may also be made under your chin or inside the mouth, if you would like to lift your jaw line.
The excess skin and fat will be removed or repositioned followed by tightening the muscles and surrounding tissues in your face.
Wounds will be carefully sutured to assure very little scaring. A special head bandage will be attached to your head and face, to help keeping bruising and swelling to a minimum.
Anaesthesia and length of the procedure
Your face will be numbed through local anaesthetic with oral or I.V. sedation, but you may choose to have the procedure done under general anaesthetic if you wish.
After the surgery, the bandage must be kept on for the first 5 days. Drainage tubes may be attached to your face but will be removed 1-2 days after surgery. There isn’t usually significant discomfort after surgery. Mr Ferrando will prescribe you pain relief medication to ease your discomfort, just in case you should experience any discomfort.
It is very important to keep your head in an elevated position as it will aid the recovery process. Some type of stitches are dissolvable and will disappear over time, whereas others will need to be removed 5 to 7 days after surgery. Metal clips will be removed two weeks after surgery. You can expect swelling and bruising and your facial movements might feel slightly stiff.
You should feel much better 2-3 days after surgery, but patients are recommended to have at least two weeks off work to allow their body to rest and recover comfortably at home. Any strenuous exercise or activities should be avoided for at least 6 weeks after surgery.
Follow up appointments will be made for you after surgery, but if you have any questions, or you should feel unsure about anything, please contact Mr Ferrando and he will gladly talk to you. The well being of his patients is of utmost importance to him.
Risks and Side Effects
All surgeries carry certain risks and even though they are rare you should be aware of them before making your decision. Mr Ferrando will talk you through any possible risks and side effects at his consultations as they will vary depending on the patient’s anatomy, age, physical condition and lifestyle. During his procedures and treatments, he does everything possible to minimise the risk of complications by practicing a meticulously detailed approach and applying his world-class training background.
